Hi… we think most of you know and familiar with this issues right???

With the improvement of technology and society, this issues was being common because we always heard about this in the newspaper, magazine and so on,,,,

Lesbian/ gay is a term most broadly used in the English language to explain sexual and romantic desire between females or male. It refers to women or male who see themselves having the primary characteristic of female/ male homosexuality and related to female/ male same-sex need.

In our country nowadays, issues of lesbian/gay being a part of social changes in Malaysia which is give the bad impact to the society and community.

Component of changes

Now, we will describe about this issues in the component of changes. There are 5 components of changes which is identity, level, duration, magnitude and rate of changes.

BEFORE CHANGES	AFTER CHANGES
Identity of change: People cannot accept and critics when the issues of lesbian is come out because this issues not very popular in this time. They feel afraid if this issues spread to future generation.	Identity of change: People feel common with this issue because it usually happen. Beside that, a lot of people think that it will be not effect for them because not happen surrounding us.
Level of change: In this time, this issue more focuses on the student who has the higher education especially overseas student.	Level of change: It more focus to community because influence from mass media. On the other hand, the people who have the lower education also get more influence from those issues.
Duration of change: People feel uncomfortable about this issues because they lack of knowledge and information.	Duration of change: Nowadays, this issues being comfortable and acceptance by the people. It is happen because mindset of people change time from time and more influence from the new environment likes advance in technology.
Magnitude of change: The quality of change for this issues really happen at this particular time because some of the people difficult to accept this issues.	Magnitude of change: People become more open-minded and easy to accept this issue. For example, according to Fatine case these issues become hottest because of the first gay couple married in Malaysia and publish in public figure. This show the quantity of people easy to accept by all people.
Rate of change: The momentum is very slow because in this time not all people agree with this kind issue. Before this, they disagree with this problem occurs and try to find the solution on how to overcome about that. These issues are newly happen that’s why they want tried to involve on that.	Rate of change: Mindset of people in this time show the scale of measurement continuously happens until today’s because this issues never stop.

Sources of issues lesbian / gay

We know that, the cases of lesbian or gay not origin in our country but were adapted from the outside country because of the advanced and modern technology, the knowledge of people about this being widely and it may influence them to try and adapt this. So here, we can say that the issues or cases of lesbian were occurring in our society because of the technology the environment. For example, the introduce of internet may wide the scope which is they can know what the issues in outside the country.

Other than that, these issues also occur because of the norms and value of people. For example, in western country, the norms of people in that environment were not take serious and they seen in commonly without against theirs norms and value. So that, community in our country also think like the western people and they practice that without think about our culture and values……

You know them?

This is Fatine or the original name is Muhammad Fadzil bin Min Bahari. Both of them are male and they were getting married. First gay couple in Malaysia who’s married.

-FAST FOOD-

Last weekend, it was time for outing…and also time for “window shopping”…hehehe…mirah, fifah,ieyda,zirah,mai,alia & Nono.. Relaxing their mind from study & want to have fun…So, we rented a car to go to Mesra Mall..yeah!!..on the way to their destination, suddenly Mirah asked them.

Mirah: You all hungry??

Ieyda: Yup! Absolutely…girls??do you?

Fifah,mai,zirah,alia,fieda: we too!!!hahahaha (laugh) ;P

Nono: But where we want to take our lunch? hehe...

Alia: Hey girls...McD is fine right??…. (while her finger was pointing to symbol McD)

Fifah: Who agree to eat fast food today??lalala

All girls in a car said: All agree!!!haha (with singing..i’m lovin’ it!!!!!)lalalala~ (^_^)

After parked their car...once we entered to the McD restaurant, we saw a lot of people inside and had enjoyed their meal with full of exciting..after finished took an ordered,…we chose table far from people to have some peaceful environment while having their meal.…hahaha (actually just for the sake of having peace conversation)hehehe… during enjoyed their meal, suddenly alia voiced up.

Alia: Can you see..a lot of people eat here…is it fast food is their first choice in taking their lunch, mirah?

Mirah: Maybe or maybe not, ermm..zirah, do you think they take fast food as their routine menu?

Zirah: Hurm…let me think first (with smile goat) ;)

Mai: It’s not funny zirah..let me tell you about it. When we talk about fast food, what will across in our mind?? Some people say, it is a common food for people nowadays. Some will say it is instant food. But, do you know what’s real definition for it?? According to young women health’s website, fast food means food that is quick, convenient, and usually affordable. I believe that this term is not weird for us, right? But, do you realize that this kind of product is one of the social changes that happen in our country. It is because, this change related to the society.

Ieyda: Nice issue that can be discussed about..ermm…it is no doubt that almost all of people love fast food. But, do you know how Malaysians respond to the fast food when it was introduced?? Fast food has been introduced in Western countries almost 100years ago….quite a long time… Nowadays, many fast food was existence around the world and enter our market such as McD, KFC, pizza hut, Burger King and others. We take an example in Indonesia, fast food is considered as a high class food where the price are relative expensive, exclusive place like fried chicken, hamburger, hot dog and so on. Now people especially young generation feel proud to buy fast food according to the thought fast food as a high meal. It is faster, easy to get, and the most important thing, it’s delicious. (serious face)hehe..

Fifah: To me, the acceptance of Malaysians on the fast food can be classified as social change. Let’s do some research regarding this thing. We can analyze it based on important components of social change according to Steven Vago. There are identity of change, level of change, duration, magnitude of change and rate of change.

Alia: Let me answer! Let us talk about the identity. The modern lifestyle of Malaysians leads to the changes in term of needs, taste and preference. Most of the people are busy and they have no time to cook. Besides, women also further their studies and they do not really good in cooking as they spend most of their time to focus on study. Fast food is the best choice as it is fast, easy, finger licking and affordable.

Mirah: So, how about the level of change?....(confuse face)hoho (j_j)

Nono: The society in Malaysia loves fast food so much, either young or old people. Let say, we ask 5th years old children about fast food they will think about KFC, McDonald and so on. Besides, people who live in the urban area will be close related to fast food, right?? But, what about those in the village and rural area?? We believe that they are also familiar with this phenomenon. They know what is McDonalds and KFC.

Zirah: What about the duration? Is’t take a short term to make a society choose fast food in their daily life?

Fifah: Fast food is a long term change phenomenon. It is because, in Malaysia, it emerged around 1970’s. In the beginning, it is hard for fast food to enter the market. I think it is because majority of Malaysians have their own routine food and they prefer to take it compare to fast food. For example, Malay take rice for their meal especially for their lunch and dinner, but if they go to KFC for example, there only have fried chicken and it can’t make their stomach full and satisfied with it. Besides, the issue of ‘Halal-Haram’ is one of the reasons why fast food is quite hard to be accepted. The issue starts when people are questioning about the method used in processing the chicken. As we know, Islam has its own rules in processing chicken based on syara’. Everybody knows that the chicken have been processed at factory. In addition, is the machine followed syara?.Now JAKIM is concerning about this issue and the fast food factories are always in the supervision of JAKIM. So Malaysian now have no worry to take fast food as it is approved by JAKIM. Since it is already accepted in Malaysia, the fast food now is still very popular and became the favourite meal for the people.

Mirah: Okey, let I continue the magnitude and rate of change based on what we learn with miss Fisha in our class and my understanding about that. We can say that the change is incremental. We can see that, from time to time, there is some improvement in fast food. Let say, the Pizza Hut. It always comes out with new recipe which is something that unique and has their own originality. It shows that, people accept it very much. If not, how come the company really confident to come out with new recipe, right???? We believe all company desire to get more profit rather than loss. The rate of change of fast food is continuously. As we say before, from time to time there is some improvement in fast food. .So, by doing some improvement, it shows that fast food give full of effort to be accepted by people. As a result, nowadays fast food is already known.

Ieyda: Here we can say that all kind of discussion is all about the components of change. But, how about the sources of change, as we know any changes in society must reflect with several sources which are considered as factors in social changes right??...

Alia: Ieyda, let me tell you deeply…There are several sources of changes, which are technology, ideology, competition, conflict, political and economic. We can say that, ideology is the best sources that can describe fast food. What are the relationship between ideology and changes? Do you know about it?? According to Max Weber, the development of capitalism represents one of the most thorough efforts yet made to establish a relationship between ideology and changes.

Zirah: Alia, you talk like a lecturer..hahaha

Mirah: who knows, you might be a development administration lecturer later..kih3…

How far the existance of the civic society may increase the government competencies. Illustrate your answer with examples.

Hi everybody...we meet again...Now, before we will discuss on the questions above, let we introduce about the term of civic society. Civic society is the group of organizations and institutions with a community or societal interest that cooperate together in order to helping what the government unable to do. Other than that, civic society also known as the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Malaysia. Here, we state the examples of the civic society, namely is Association for The Prevention of Drugs Abuse( PEMADAM), Women Aid Organization(WAO),Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement(ABIM), Community Development Centre (CDC),and Voice of the Citizen (SUARAM).

As we know, the existence of this society play main role in our government competencies which is help in develops the society in achieves the national objectives. We know that, misuse of drug is a major problem or cases in our country. Drug addict may give more problems in our government if a lot of people misuse that. So here, NGO’s was established PEMADAM to overcome the problem regarding of misuse of drug. This society will organize the program regarding the drug like campaign, motivation program and other activity in order to give the awareness to the people especially who’s a drug addict.

Other than that, other NGO’S that establish in our country is Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) or the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement was founded in 1972 and is considered the most organized force in Islamic matters in Malaysia Some of its main objectives have included establishment and spread of Islamic view and principles as stated in the Quran and Sunnah of Muhammad and recruitment of Muslim youth. Many ABIM activists have occupied key leadership positions in religious, social, educational, and political arenas, giving it access to affect policy guidelines and the growth of the Islamic ethos in the country

In the other hand, civic society is order to establish a bottom-up development planning. NGO is the one of the implementation of such aspiration requires an environment which is conducive for people participation. NGO also may help the Government to solve the certain problems such problem in rural area. Rural development has been the hub focus of the Malaysian economic policies since independence. The rural sector plays important role in the country economic growth, social and political development. One of the major social problems of the rural sector is poverty. For example, Community Development Centre (CDC) is an association that helps to overcome the problem of Rural development which is one of important problems nowadays in Malaysia. Besides, it helps to educate the people from rural area through various programs like seminars and campaign. Besides that, this program also encourages participation of people in the rural area.

In conclusion, NGOs bodies play important role in order to ensure the national objective can be achieved. As we know, the government cannot stand alone without other parties whose support then in administration and development of the country.

Hi all! First of all, let us explain about the civic society. Civic society here is referring to the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Malaysia. NGO is an organization, which has no relationship with governments, while at the same time not being focused on making a profit. It serves social or environmental objectives, empower people, engage in advocacy for change, and provide services. The examples are the Association for The Prevention of Drug Abuse (PEMADAM), Malaysia Mental Health Association, National Diabetes Institute (NADI), National Cancer Society of Malaysia (MAKNA) and All Women’s Action Society (AWAM).

In our opinion, the existence of the NGO is very important to help the Government in providing the needs and demands of the people. As we know, the Government itself needs to administer the whole country. It is impossible for the Government to cover everything. So, Government needs assistance to fulfill any aspect in which the Government is unable to do so. The NGO is the best assistance for the Government in providing better services to the public. Each NGO will represent and struggle for specific group and of course it will be more exposed and has better access to that group. It means that NGO will have more information regarding the real situation outside. So, it can understand the problems and needs of that certain group. The NGO will then represent that group by voicing out their needs and opinions to the Government. The Government can know their problems and will try to provide the necessities of the people. For example, National Human Rights Society of Malaysia (HAKAM), which promotes for better economic, society and politics. It defends human rights in Malaysia in which the citizens will have the opportunity to voice out any unsatisfied in several aspects such as for improving standard of living, welfare, socio-economic aid, and so on.

NGO also may help the Government to solve the certain problems by organizing various initiatives or programs. Thus, the capability of the Government in providing the services can be improved. For example, PEMADAM is an association that helps to overcome the problem of drug addiction which is increasing nowadays in Malaysia. It makes research regarding the misuse of drugs to help the drug abusers through the continuation supervision. Besides, it helps to educate the people regarding the dangers of the misuse of drugs through various programs like seminars, dialogue forum, related courses and counseling services. It also will record and collect the opinions of the expertise regarding the misuse of drugs and convey the information to the public.

Instead of focusing on people well being, there are environmental NGOs exist in Malaysia. They have been responsible for bringing about the welfare of environmental concern. In facing the globalization practice in the world, one of the challenges that will be faced by government is to balance the environmental and natural resource protection with social and economic advancement. It is important for environmental NGOs to sustain our environment for future generations of Malaysians and indirectly to encourage youths in appreciating nature. The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) which is Malaysia’s largest and oldest non-government environmental organization has done some projects that concern with the environment. For example, one big project combined with IKEA (Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd), which is IKEA-MNS “LOVE THE EARTH” project, which aim to reduce the use of plastic bag consumption and uncontrolled littering in our country. IKEA will not give customers free bag plastic anymore and if they want, they have to pay for it.

In a nutshell, we may say that the Government cannot achieve the development objective without the involvement from the NGOs. Thus, the effectiveness of the Government can be achieved with the existence of NGOs in the country.

Analyze the impact of securing foreign aid to the development of the country.How far do you think the government should comply with the rules put by the borrowers?

Ok..How should we start?

Hurm…The thing is like this. The develop country is of course more powerful than the developing country.

So, they have the advantage which is giving foreign aids to those foreign countries and to get the foreign aids are not that easy because the borrower will ask the recipient to fulfill rules put by them.

The impacts are firstly, the borrower will act as dominant economic power as they put the rules and of course they will put rules which give benefit to them too and it willl also promote the long-term development and growth. Like the money that we use to make big buildings which benefit the citizens will affect them maybe in 5 years more. Here, the degree of political effectiveness will play its role to what extent the resources will be used for.

Secondly, the foreign aids also will attract more domestic support by reducing taxes or increasing subsidies or distributing aids to elites to secure government control.

Thirdly, foreign aids will help to boost the development in a country where there is problem regarding the limited resources. And this problem is normally happened to the developing countries.

According to our views, the government should follow the rules put by the borrower to get the foreign aids but .it must not exceed the ability of our country to afford it. so that, we will not bear the cost that act we should not or cost that can avoid it or still the government can make some negotiation with the borrower to get the best result to the agreement.

How you evaluate the political situation in Malaysia during 1960’s especially in term of people participation in politics?

Salam everybody!!!...today we will discuss again about our country’s political situation in 1960s especially participation of the people in politics…such a nice issues that can be discussed. Once upon a time…hehe…after independence, our country was administered by political elite, which is UMNO.

Malaysia's predominant political party, the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), has held power in coalition with other parties MCA -Malaysian Chinese Association and MIC-Malaysian Indian Congress since Malaya's independence in 1957. However, the political modernization has occurred during 1960’s. Other parties that exist in this era like Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), and Parti Gerakan as opposition parties.

At this time these political parties were struggling very hard to gain support from the people and why they do so???...jeng3x..actually…they try to prove to the public their strength and their spirit to represent the people of Malaysia which was absolutely good for the development of the country and will bring various benefit to the people.

How about people’s participation on that time??…the participation of the people in the politics was not that much because of lack of education and opportunity. As we know our country was a newly independent state, the citizens were very excited for development. Unfortunately, they did not have enough education to involve in politics…huhu… The government can manipulate the uneducated people to win their heart.

In fact, some of them were educated but, they were still influenced by colonial mentality. Besides, on that time, only few parties occurred. As Malaysian they definitely don’t have choice. So, they have to choose any party to lead this country, right?? As we know, in that era people really obsess about their races, so it will encourage them to choose UMNO.It is because, UMNO is one of the party who struggle for 3 main races in our country and also for country’s independence.

Here, we can conclude that the democratic political culture was there, but the participation of the people was still controlled…you guys agree with us???... Comments are pleasured…

From Me to You. note I

Salam.

Hi all.

We meet again. Well, after quite a long pause, I’ve decided to use blog as part of learning and teaching subject PAD 390 – Development Administration.

The concept stills much the same. Students are divided into groups – luckily, as I’m getting exclusive (read: getting unpopular) lecturer, the number of students who enrolled in my class in this semester is small, as compared to others. On the bright side, it is relatively easier to manage. And, on the other hand … sigh*! Whatever it is, I remain to be positive most of the time [pstt, pray for me OK – thanks in advance].

How this blog things work?

Every time after class, each group will be assigned different topic to be blogged – this obviously to enrich them as well as to avoid the boredom, if you know what I mean. Then, each group must respond to entries post by others. Since the number of students is small, everybody needs to respond individually. Fail to do so will cost them penalty [of what? .. yet to be decided)

At the end of it, I will mark their works accordingly, and obviously this will be part of their continuous assessment. As simple as that.

I’ve no other intention of being so mean difficult but to destroy help them understanding the subject better. I take no credit for their future success even though I’m risking myself as subject to be blamed when they fail (Allah forbid!).
